Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Minimum 5 years experience with demonstrated academic achievement success
Nature of Work:
The Curriculum Specialist will be responsible for supporting the district directly by performing a variety of administrative tasks in coordinating the successful implementation of district initiatives, programs, evidence and researched based instructional practices, and curriculum as aligned with NC Standard Course Of Study. Employee is responsible for interpreting changes and correlating alignment to the NC Curriculum, informing teachers and principals of the implications of those changes and ensuring that instruction is aligned with curriculum goals. Employee coaches teachers and staff in developing strategies and techniques for assessing and increasing student achievement, as well as assists teachers with tools and resources to aid instruction. Employee collaborates with central office administrators and school administrators, serves on committees, and assists administration with evaluating the effectiveness of initiative implementation and strategies for instruction.
Essential Job Functions:
- Serve on district committees as assigned.
- Write grants and seek resources as needed.
- Collaborate with teachers to identify the instructional needs of students.
- Plan and facilitate district support sessions and workshops in identified areas of need.
- Facilitate foundations training courses for teachers.
- Assist with data analysis of students' progress and next step guidance. Design and implement assessment strategies to measure student learning outcomes.
- Provide teachers with specific strategies to support academic growth of students.
- Align curriculum to ensure proper pacing of the content standards, including the creating and updating district pacing curriculum guides.
- Create, revise, and compile instructional resources and curriculum that align with content standards and research based instructional strategies.
- Create district common assessments aligned to the NCSOS and the level of rigor expected for the end-of-year tests
- Support teachers and foster a culture of continuous improvement
- Assist teachers with disaggregation and interpretation of assessment data and provide them with specific strategies to improve achievement.
- Plan and facilitate professional development for teachers to support the implementation of the curriculum with research based instructional strategies, and best practices.
- Model and/or co-teach lessons to support teacher development with content and pedagogy as needed or requested.
- Work with the district leadership to develop curriculum, instruction, and assessment procedures involving current research.
- Collaboration with school academic coaches and instructional leaders.
- Support, facilitate, and assist with Multi-Tiered System of Support at district and school level including interventions and enrichment.
- Communicate with parents, community members, and stakeholders to support student learning
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
- This work will require the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force.
- Work will regularly require speaking or hearing, frequently requires walking and sitting and occasionally requires standing, using hands for manual dexterity or to handle or feel, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and lifting.
- Work will require preparing and analyzing written or computer data; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
