Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an approved education program in the subject area.
- North Carolina teaching license.
Nature of Work
Definition:
To plan, instruct and organize instructional environments which help
students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their
educational and social development.
Position Purpose:
The EC Teacher plans and provides academic experiences and is responsible for creating a flexible program. The EC Teacher also maintains an educational environment that provides specialized instruction for students who are differently abled in order for students to benefit from the general education curriculum to the greatest extent possible upon being provided the support of supplemental aides and accommodations if deemed necessary. Work will involve developing and implementing student’s Individual Education Programs in classroom settings that are compatible with the student’s age and developmental level, along with developing lesson plans, adapting materials and designing activities to assist EC students to develop appropriate academic, behavioral and social skills to meet their IEP goals. The EC Teacher monitors the progress of each student and maintains EC records in compliance with local, state and federal guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Extensive knowledge of the principles and application of theory into practice for effective instruction and positive behavioral supports
- Extensive knowledge of human behavior, development and skill performance
- Extensive knowledge of student learning and motivation techniques
- Extensive knowledge of the assessment and treatment of behavior and affective disorders
- Provide positive behavioral support to students
- Extensive knowledge of local, state and federal mandates governing the determination of delivery of special education services
- Ability to complete observations, conduct IEP (Individual Education Plan) meetings and create relevant IEPs for each student
- Ability to work effectively with administrators, staff, central office staff, students and parents
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Effectively teach socially acceptable behavior by employing techniques in an overall positive behavioral support system
- Effectively establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining a safe and orderly environment in which students are able to learn
- Routinely meet with parents to discuss student progress and to determine priorities for given students and individualized educational needs
- Effectively provide crisis intervention for students, and those in EC and inclusive classrooms, as needed
